Tomb Raider Underworld: First Impression

So, I went and bought Tomb Raider Underworld.

And it's pretty much as I expected it - to wit: the jumping pisses me off.

The game is pretty and I think I'd enjoy it overall without the jumping frustrations, but the jumping is painful.

As well, some things don't make any sense at all. For example, in one level, I was on a level above another. At the edge of the upper level, I finger-hung from the ledge - my feet probably about 3 feet off the floor of the level below, then dropped down.

I died from falling damage.

It's the most ridiculous example of railroading I have ever seen. Apparently (I didn't notice the first time until I went back and looked for "what the devs want me to do" - there was some bricks on an adjacent wall I could hang from and drop down. Which I did successfully.

But I don't think I really really got pissed off at the game until the level after, wherein I spent a long time climbing up a wall - then missed a jump and fell in water at the front of the level. There was no going back, even though the game had presumably checkpointed me right before the jump (had I died, I'd be at that point). I would have to waste time climbing back to where I was - a long time - just to try the jump again.

So it's sitting on my table. At this point, I'm wondering if I should take it back. I don't usually take anything back unless I feel that I was deceived, so I probably won't.

I wasn't deceived.

I knew what I was getting myself in to.
